What
is the Weatherhead Connection?
The
Weatherhead Connection is an evolving set of e-Learning projects initiated
with funding from a three-year grant from the Cleveland Foundation.
Connection
projects fall into any of the following categories:
1)
development of new and innovative instructional approaches by using
web-based technologies. This covers development of course modules or
frameworks for organizing course contents or specific approaches to
integrate web based teaching in the classroom;
2) development of community portals that can improve applied research
or improve either research or teaching in the school or improve the
school’s ties with its stakeholders;
3) development of e-journals that help publish original research work
or make available to the larger public research results from the school;
4) design and implementation of teaching technologies which improve
teaching processes in classrooms or outside the classroom, or help integrate
them better with research.
In
addition to funded projects, at the request of members of the Weatherhead
community, the Connection team has created projects like the Weatherhead
Events Calendar (integrated with the FrontDoor
portal site), Weatherhead in the News: Media Clips database
and the Action Learning (Weatherhead's flagship consulting course)
site. Many of these projects have been based on deliverables associated
with the funded projects -- then applied in a new way (see @Weatherhead).
In
2002, the team began acquiring professional-grade media production equipment
with the intention of taking our projects to the next level. In design
and development are the Weatherhead Audio/Video Library (to serve
up live and 'on demand' media, a video-enhanced Syllabus Server
and media-enhanced tutorials and lectures.
